People might have a lot to say about expensive houses and rentals in Mississauga, but they can’t say that city isn’t generating interest among prospective buyers.

A recent blog post by Zoocasa, a real estate website and brokerage, suggests that the city is one of the 10 most-searched-for municipalities when it comes to Ontario real estate.

“From searching for ‘cheapest houses for sale’ to ‘luxury homes,’ prospective buyers are looking for their next home,” Zoocasa said in a post.

“We pulled the top ten searched cities to find where people want to move. We’ve sorted them in order of most to least searched.”

Mississauga hits the list at number 10.

As for what’s drawing eyes to Mississauga, the post says the city is popular amongst residents and tourists who appreciate its homegrown attractions and proximity to Toronto.

While the city is popular, it is expensive, with the average home price hitting $1,009,803 in February 2023.

While Toronto is certainly the cultural and financial hub of Canada, Mississauga–a growing suburb with a population of more than 700,000 people–boasts a lot of attractions of its own. The city is home to Square One, the Mississauga Art Gallery, the Bradley Museum, a hugely diverse food scene, hiking and cycling trails, parks and conservation areas (such as Rattray Marsh and Kariya Park, which has become known for its cherry blossom trees) and more.

The city is also home to a number of schools and two significant post-secondary institutions: UTM and Sheridan College’s Hazel McCallion Campus.

“Because of its wide range of attractions, Mississauga is well-liked by both residents and tourists. If you’re looking for a home that encourages more time outdoors, or you want to be on the outskirts of Toronto, Mississauga is the place for you,” the blog reads.

Other cities that made the list include Toronto, Oshawa, Richmond Hill, Whitby, Scarborough, Hamilton, Vaughan, Brampton and Ajax.
