A housing development proposal in Brampton aims to transform a piece of agricultural land.
The 3.54-hectare property at 8940 Creditview Rd. at Queen Street West, in Brampton, currently zoned agricultural, is set to be approved for the development of 60 single-detached homes.
Currently, there are eight structures on the property — heritage home Edwin Trimble House, a small timber frame barn, a large timber frame barn with cement silo, a concrete block milk house, a modern fabric Quonset hut, two horse stables, and a modular home.
After public meetings last spring, more than 100 residents signed a petition opposing the project. The petition cites concerns with the rezoning of agricultural lands, compatibility with the existing neighbourhood, stormwater management, and lack of open space for children.
But staff is recommending councillors approve the development at the Planning and Development Committee on Monday (March 20).
“The proposed development is in the public interest,” the staff report notes.
The dimension and shapes of the lots are suitable for the proposed subdivision. The existing and proposed utilities and municipal services are adequate for the proposed development, the report notes.
There are plans to repair and restore Edwin Trimble House. It should be kept on the property but it may be moved.

The proposed development will have a mix of lot sizes. There will be two single-detached homes with lot frontages of 15.8 metres fronting Creditview Road; 24 single-detached homes with frontages of 11.6 metres; and 33 single-detached homes with frontages of 12.8 metres.
The property will have an internal public road network.
