The total active U.S. rig count, which includes those drilling for natural gas, climbed by nine to 779, according to Baker Hughes. Oil prices continued to trade higher, with December West Texas Intermediate crude
up $1.98, or 2.3%, at $88.45 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
