There’s another text scam going around in Mississauga and Brampton, this time using your own phone number to try and dupe residents.

The scam texts cellphone users with a text message claiming to be from “Easyweb Trust,” and asks users to reply to the message.

Scammers could be trying to impersonate TD Canada Trust’s  EasyWeb online banking service.

TD warned customers of a similar text scam back in June where cellphone users were receiving messages saying that “Your card is locked” and that you need to “Text HELP to unlock it.”

The banking giant calls these scam attempts “smishing” a portmanteau of SMS and phishing.

TD Canada Trust says on their website that if you suspect you have received a fraudulent message, do not respond to the text. Do not click on any links.

Immediately contact the financial institution or credit card company and tell them of your suspicions.

“TD will never ask you to reply to a Fraud Alert text with any personal information or click on any links in your reply,” TD Canada Trust said.

Peel Regional Police have warned residents in the past that these messages will often ask for names, birthday, social insurance numbers and even banking or credit card information.
