A Burlington elementary school is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a two-day celebration next week.
Dr. Charles Best Public School, 3110 Parkgate Cres., turns 50 and will be hosting events on Friday and Saturday in honour of the milestone.
On Friday, Oct. 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the school will host a drop-in event, Meet and Treats, for former and current students and staff and the community.
Visitors can visit Memory Lane, which will include pictures and items collected from over the years, and walk around the school to see what has changed and what has remained the same.
“Being the principal of Dr. Charles Best PS, has provided me with opportunities to learn about, and reflect upon, the long-term impact the school has had, and continues to have, on students, families, our local community and the global village,” said Thomson.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, the school will be hosting a series of activities to commemorate the special occasion.
Included will be a a performance by the school choir, the planting of a tree gifted by a retired teacher and speeches from Director of Education Curtis Ennis, Superintendent Aiman Flahat and Principal Paul Thomson.
Memory Lane will be open again to visitors, there will be a graffiti wall to sign, a slideshow presentation and a photo booth. The school has made a time capsule, to be opened at a later date, which will be on display during the celebration.
In addition, a teacher and student who attended during the school’s first year will discuss the impact the school has had on many throughout the community.
