As a bonafide street style star, Hailey Bieber knows a thing or two about accessorizing. Whether she’s in a dressy suit or casual streetwear, the model has been snapped countless times in ensembles that feel totally put-together—and her killer collection of bags, shoes, and sunglasses has a lot to do with it. It only makes sense, then, that Bieber is foraying into designing the latter category. Today, Bieber launched a new collection of optical frames and sunglasses with Vogue Eyewear. “It’s a space I’ve never really gotten into before,” Bieber tells Vogue of the collaboration. “I was already a big fan of Vogue Eyewear, I’ve worn their sunglasses many times, so it made sense for me to align with them.”
The new assortment—which is available on Vogue Eyewear and Sunglass Hut—includes four sunglasses and four optical styles, and they all retail for $99. With new takes on silhouettes like pointed cat-eyes or long, rectangular frames, Bieber wanted to design a line that had a little something for everybody. “I wanted to stay true to some of the classic shapes that Vogue Eyewear produces, they have such a range,” says Bieber. “I wanted it to feel very classic.” For some of the finishings, like the tortoise marbling or the golden frames, she looked to what she’s drawn to with her own personal style. “I pulled from a mix of inspirations, eras of time, and shapes that I’ve loved on myself,” she says. “Then, I reworked them.”
When it came time for designing the optical assortment, Bieber says she instantly knew a thing or two about her likes and dislikes. “I wear glasses because my eyesight has gotten so bad,” says. Bieber. “I didn’t have to get glasses until I was an adult, which I’m sure has something to do with staring at screens and phones all the time.” While she admits she sometimes wears specs as an accessory, she knew they had to be practical and comfortable. For the sunglasses, however, she wanted to be bolder and have more fun with the designs. “Putting a cool pair of sunglasses with an outfit can elevate it—it can make or break an outfit,” she says. Her go-to shapes are smaller sizes. “I’m not a large sunglasses person; I have a tiny face.” (How many pairs does she have in her collection? “I have no clue, it’s probably an embarrassing amount,” she laughs.)
Bieber says the styles are perfect for summer travel as well—so we couldn’t resist asking her about what her must-have travel items are, aside from statement shades. “SPF to protect the skin, and a good book is important if you’re going to be spending time on the beach or outside,” says Bieber. “Just last night, I actually finished this book called Verity by Colleen Hoover. It’s a fiction book with really fun, interesting stories.” As for what she’ll be wearing this summer, Bieber says she’s been thinking outside of the box lately. “Right now, I’m having a lot of fun with my style. I’m trying different things out,” she says. “I’m trying to not continuously repeat the same things, and venture out of my comfort zone. I’m mixing in cool vintage pieces right now.”
Given her latest venture, Bieber says she’s also looking forward to collaborating more with fashion brands behind-the-scenes this summer and beyond. “I definitely want to do something in the clothing space, which I definitely will,” says Bieber. “I’m very picky about clothes and the way that they fit—I’m overly-specific about sizing and the way they hang on the body—so designing something clothing-wise is very fun and exciting for me.” Soon, you may be able to dress like Bieber from head to toe.
