The province says there are more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, dozens of which are in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.
According to Peel Public Health (PPH), there are 61 new cases of the virus in the Region of Peel – 30 of those cases in Mississauga, 29 were in Brampton, and three cases in Caledon.
With confirmed cases of Omicron variant of the virus now in Ontario, travellers arriving at Pearson Airport from everywhere except the U.S. are being tested for COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status.
There have been 119,516 cases of COVID-19 across the Region of Peel according to PPH. Of those cases 118,088 have recovered and 399 are pending.
PPH reported an outbreak of the virus traced back to a wedding on Nov. 20 at Mississauga Convention Centre.
Guests who attended the wedding between 5:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. need to “seek immediate testing,” PPH said in a statement.
The province reported a total of 1,031 new COVID-19 cases across Ontario on Friday and four deaths – the most new cases on a single day since May 30.
PPH is holding a pediatric vaccine webinar next week so parents and caregivers can get information on COVID-19 vaccines in children and ask questions from medical professionals.
The Region has a goal to vaccinate 90 per cent of eligible residents against COVID-19.
As of Friday, 89.9 per cent of Peel residents over 12 years old have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 86.2 per cent are fully immunized.
